A well-kept secret, this beautiful salmon river runs from its source in The Cabrach past Huntly, Turriff, before reaching the North Sea between Banff and Macduff. A journey alongside the river starting in the Cairngorms will take you on a meandering route through windswept hills, amongst rolling, fertile farmland, finally to the stunning Banffshire coastline. It's an area rich in history, wonderful wildlife, fantastic views and the very best of locally produced food.

We receive regular visits from red squirrels, and Eden Plants is a great place to view them. Northern Aberdeenshire is one of the last places in the UK where the red squirrel colony continues to thrive.

Take your time here, and you may also spot otters, woodpeckers, dippers or the unmistakeable blue of the kingfisher.
